A New Year Equals New Watches

Good day and Happy New Year watch world. I know that’s a little late. I’ve been away for a while. It seems 2013 has already produced an explosion of innovation, ingenuity and down right coolness when it comes to men’s watches. Let’s tally it all up. Jaeger LeCoultre has a new Deep Sea Chronograph Cermet. Kobold Watch Co. has gone on a spiritual journey & produced the Himalaya Deity Edition. IWC has fused analog & digital into one watch with the Ingenieur Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month timepiece. Luminox continues to soldier on with the Nav SPC( Navigation Specialist), a new model from their RECON series along with the Steel Color Mark Chronograph 3180 series.I’m excited to see what else 2013 has in store in the world of horology.

Can’t Live Without My Chronograph

Posted in Science and Time Keeping, Watches with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 14, 2012 by chronoshieldwatches

In today’s fast paced environment, we may find ourselves constantly multi-tasking. This habit even applies to time keeping. It doesn’t matter if you’re behind a desk, in a cockpit, playing spy vs. spy, climbing a mountain, chasing bad guys, diving to find Nemo or having a romantic dinner. Having a chronograph watch on your wrist always comes in handy. I’m personally addicted to chronograph time-pieces. From Casio to Audemars Piguet and everything in between. If it’s a chronograph, it gets my attention. My eyes light up even more if you add instruments like tachymeters( measures speed), telemeters( measures speed of sound for phenomenons like thunder & lightning). Oh, and don’t add a compass rose on a rotating bezel! I can’t live without my chronograph.

Made It In America

Good day watch world. Today I wanted to take the time to recognize two watch companies responsible for making exceptional time pieces. They’re both made in the U.S. and deserve to be placed in the top echelons of watch-making. I’m referring to Resco Instruments and Kobold. Resco is based in Coronado, CA, while Kobold watches are produced in Pittsburgh, PA. These two companies have produced some of the toughest and tactical time pieces in the game. While Resco has been seen on the wrist of Jim Caviezel on the CBS show Person of Interest as well as your local Navy Seal. Kobold watches can be found on the wrist of your average mountain climber or your neighborhood SWAT team member. Resco is run by active duty service members and Kobold was started by Michael Kobold while attending college 14 years ago. You can’t get more authentic and home-grown than that.

Happy Thursday watch world. I hope you guys have been enjoying the Olympic games. It’s been exciting to watch. Ok, now watch stuff. Breaking News: Kobold has just announced that it’s unveiling the SMG-X. This piece displays a second time zone and has a U.S. made stainless steel case. It’s dial is designed to be legible even while wearing night-vision goggles ( for our service members and SWAT teams etc.).  A domed, antireflective sapphire crystal protects the anti-UV treated dial with its green luminous hour markers. It also has a canvas strap to secure to the wrist.  A reliable Swiss automatic movement powers the SMG-X, which is housed in a Kobold Soarway case. Now just in case you need a refresher course. Kobold was started by Michael Kobold about 14 years ago while he attended Carnegie Mellon University. Kobold is also a U.S made brand.  Go U.S.A!!!!!!

5,4,3,2,1……You’re Cleared for Take Off

Posted in Watches with tags , , on July 24, 2012 by chronoshieldwatches

Good afternoon watchers and watchettes. Today I’m pleased to write about a watch brand made right here in the U.S. I’m talking about Kobold. Started by Michael Kobold in 1998 when he was only 19 at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Today I’m highlighting the Comanche Chronograph. This bad boy was designed for military pilots( I’ve always had a soft spot for military pilots because my grand-father is a retired military pilot), with such features as a Deep Black dial with anti-reflective sapphire crystal in a matte-finish stainless steel case. It has a uni-directional rotating bezel with a count-up minute track. With a screw-locked crown and push buttons to keep out dust particles and moisture. The Comanche is powered by a Swiss Automatic movement. Although you see the word Swiss, this piece is made right here in the U.S. Pittsburgh, PA to be exact. So let’s fire up the after burners and break the sound barrier. The Comanche Chronograph will let you know how early you are for your next appointment. Over and out.
